Course Specific Details

During this program, students will learn advanced General Business Management, which builds on the project management discipline’s methods, processes, and principles. The course’s main goal is to demonstrate proficiency in this discipline.

This module focuses on management concepts such as managing, performance and motivation, governance, ethics, culture and emotions, decision making, leadership, organizational structures and different cultures, team effectiveness, value chain, and sustainable development management. Addresses proper governance; employs processes for continuous improvement; and employs analytics to further business objectives. It focuses on governance and ethics using advanced methods and processes. Advanced concepts of strategic thinking and operational development are examined, as well as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), balanced score cards, and methods for managing performance and teamwork. Using quantitative modeling tools and techniques to make business decisions. A high-level overview of project management concepts. This program also builds on the knowledge gained in previous PCiBS courses.

General Business Management and project management are the two most important skills to have in any industry in order to be a valuable asset to a company.

Levels of Educational Qualification

Using the educational services provided by PCiBS, students can earn qualifications from international affiliated and accredited universities that are recognized by a national qualification framework (NQF) that is divided into levels. The European qualification levels are from level 0 to level 08.

All courses require students to earn a passing grade by achieving a predetermined percentage on their exams in order to demonstrate their ability to perform as a competitive individual in the workplace. Individuals who are performance-based are evaluated on their ability to participate in a lecture and practical simulations (live) of various projects that are incorporated into each of the Project Controls Majors, which are listed below.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

Admission requirements for Undergraduate:
  • Age: Minimum age 18 years
  • Recognition of Previous (RPL) Study: All documents need to be certified / notarized. All non-English documents must have a certified and evaluated English translation attached to the application.
  • English level: For non-English speaking students, TOEFL / IELTS or equivalent is required for students who did not study at English speaking school. The Admission Committee will also consider factors such as TOEFL/IELTS scores.
  • One passport-size photo.
  • Passport copy / national ID card certified / notarized.

The practical part of the course is provided with assignments in the other PCiBS courses, where this course will establish the basic outlines of minutes, reports, presentation skills that require a specific style of writing for business. The specific competencies concentrate on the performance of these skills as applied to professions such as project management and leadership.
PCiBS-MGT-160 Fundamentals of Project Management
This course deals with the basic principles of project management and introduces the students to the project management discipline. It focuses on the basic requirements of setting up small projects. The course follows a structured manner and allows students to develop their competencies for the specific discipline in question. The main aim of the course in to demonstrate proficiency in this discipline to ensure that the student can be a valuable asset to any project that they are involved with. This course deals with the basic principles of scheduling and introduces the students to the planning discipline. It focuses on the basic requirements of setting up standard schedules for small projects. The course follows a structured manner and allows students to develop their competencies for the specific discipline in question. The main aim of the course in to demonstrate proficiency in this discipline to ensure that the student can be a valuable asset to any project that they are involved with. It ensures that a basic logical process is followed to develop a schedule. A scheduling overview is presented to the students and includes: the work breakdown structure; basic schedule specification; stakeholders; the role of a project planner. This course is an introduction to property development. The aims of this course are to develop an understanding of the basic principles; the relevant statutes and ordinances required to develop property in your area. PCiBS-PRO-182 Property Management & Investment I
This course introduces students to property management and investment. We get to understand fixed property and looks characteristics; functions and pricing of the property market. The focus is on property maintenance and repair of buildings. Maintenance focus areas are identified and allocated to the correct contractors / individuals to complete. The course discusses various types of properties such as: commercial buildings for businesses, organizations or corporations and residential properties. The course touches on financing models for commercial, residential and other properties. We differentiate between real estate and property investment. The students will cover various topics in leasing, maintenance and purchasing contracts. We touch on property management techniques; selling and purchasing property. We also touch on various financing models and property investment analysis. The course covers property cash flows; interest rates; gearing methods and risk analysis for specific property investments. Team selection, team development and conflict within the project environment are also discussed. This course introduces methods of analysis of project risk, procurement management and the project review and completion. PCiBS-MGT-250 Project Scope, Schedule, Cost & Resource Management II
This course will elaborate on project scope and the management of scope in controlling portfolios, a program and multiple projects. It discusses issues relating to scope definition throughout the portfolios, a program and multiple projects life cycle. It will incorporate a combined work breakdown structure, the goals and objectives, constraints, the operational concept, budget and time, and who has the management authority around managing portfolios, a program and multiple projects. It also elaborates on project time and cost management including issues relating to the portfolios, program and multiple projects life cycle. It incorporates the portfolios, program and multiple projects strategy and cost management is addressed from a planning, estimating and control point of view. PCiBS-PRO-280 Property Development & Investment II
This course deals with the foundations of property development. The aims of this course are to develop an in depth understanding of the core principles; the relevant statutes and ordinances required to develop property in your area. It focuses on the various types of property development and the approvals required for such developments. It looks at land development; financing and the risk involved. We investigate various models that can be used to assist the decision-making process of property development. The students will be required to develop a proper plan for a property development program and include all the application and approvals cycles of various parties and stakeholders. The development of a detailed construction plan must be submitted. The course discusses market research; the promotion and selling of property developments; the legal implications of contracts and tax implications. And finally, also discusses sustainable development; environmental issues and international practices around property development. In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-PRO-180 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. This course can include some assignments that form part of a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) that must be presented during this programme.
PCiBS-PRO-282 Property Management & Investment II
This course starts students on the fundamentals of property management and investment. We delve into property around its characteristics and functions in the property market. The focus is on property maintenance and investment. The course identifies maintenance areas and allocates contractors or individuals to complete the tasks. This course deals with the rate of change in complex and dynamic environments, internally and externally. The drive for constant organizational change to be successful and sustainable for companies to survive. We focus on the fundamentals of leading and managing change, for the organization and for the you as individual to change yourself. It focuses on teams and the changes that are required to keep them motivated and happy. You will be required to demonstrate your ability to take part in and some change management programs. This course focuses on the nature of organisational change; how we manage interventions and utilize techniques. It follows with issues around managing organizational change.
PCiBS-BUS-384 Organizational Behavior
This course develops the building blocks for behavior and organizational change. We discuss some models of change together with their complexities and the core drivers of change. We consider how to manage successful change and provides some key guiding principles for change. Furthermore, we look at resolving some dilemmas around change. In section one, we look at designing organisations with the basis of change to make them a matrix organization that is required as a project management organization. We also look at companies with a project structure within and external. PCiBS-MGT-305 Project Communication, Stakeholder and Integration Management III
This course builds on methods and processes that are used in stakeholder analysis around managing portfolios, a program and multiple projects. Items that are addressed are: categorization; internal and external factors; inter-relationships; roles and responsibilities and the influences of stakeholders. Team selection, team development and conflict within the project environment are also discussed. This course provides additional methods for analysis of stakeholder communication, project management information system, the project life cycle, project integration management, monitoring and change control, and the project review and completion. This course investigates project communications management around managing portfolios, a program and multiple projects, including issues relating to the various phases throughout their life cycles. The importance of project integration management, the processes that guide the project plan setup and the strategic plan of a project and the management around portfolios, a program and multiple projects. Change control and its importance will be discussed, plus the project monitoring and control activities. Earned value management (EVM) approach is addressed for projects. In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-MGT-205 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. This course includes some assignments that form part of a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) that must be presented during this programme.
PCiBS-MGT-340 Project Quality, Risk and Procurement Management III
This course builds on various methods of analysis of project risk, procurement management and the project review and completion around managing portfolios, a program and multiple projects. This course discusses the following project risk elements, namely: environment, planning, identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment, monitoring and review of associated risks. Furthermore, it discusses the following project procurement elements, namely: planning, strategies, legal issues, solicitation, monitoring and control, including project review and completion. This course builds on various methods and analysis of project quality management around managing portfolios, a program and multiple projects. It will address the project quality context, quality planning, quality assurance and quality improvement, plus the quality development during the project lifecycle and total quality management (TQM). In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-MGT-240 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. This course includes some assignments that form part of a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) that must be presented during this programme.
PCiBS-MGT-350 Project Scope, Schedule, Cost & Resource Management III
This course will provide additional background on project scope and the management of scope. It discusses issues relating to scope definition throughout the project life cycle. It will incorporate a work breakdown structure, the goals and objectives, constraints, the operational concept, budget and time, and who has the management authority. In addition, factors that influenced the discount rate in financial calculations and cash flow, specifically with the Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) method will be discussed. It also elaborates on project time and cost management including issues relating to the project life cycle and all its phases. It incorporates time definition and estimating plus discuss the various networks that are available. The project strategy and the projects associated cost management is addressed from a planning, estimating and control point of view. An in depth discussion about earned value management (EVM) with samples of project control with EVM. In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-MGT-250 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. This course includes some assignments that form part of a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) that must be presented during this programme.
PCiBS-MGT-360 Programme & Portfolios Project Management
This course builds on the methods; processes; principles in project management and introduces the students to the project management discipline. It focuses on managing portfolios, a program and multiple projects for project management companies. The course follows a structured manner and allows students to develop their competencies for the specific discipline in question. The main aim of the course in to demonstrate proficiency in this discipline to ensure that the student can be a valuable asset to any project that they are involved with. The course builds on the use of project management and how portfolios, a program and multiple projects benefit from this type of management style.  It discusses concepts; life cycles; project teams; communication and document control. It covers estimating, Costing and Planning and control thereof and focuses on risks, procurement, human resources, quality, communication, stakeholders and integration management. In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-MGT-260 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. This course includes some assignments that form part of a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) that must be presented during this programme.
PCiBS-PCM-354 Project Controls Manager III

Developing and implementing performance measurement into projects with project controls. Using planning, costing, estimating, administration and document control to manage project controls at portfolio, program and projects level; different processes and methods monitoring and controlling of portfolio, program and projects. The importance of contracting, managing claims and disputes and the role of project controls. The importance of documentation in projects and contracts.
PCiBS-PRO-380 Property Development & Investment III
This course deals with the advanced principles of property development. The aims of this course are to develop an in depth understanding of the principles used to develop a high residential area, old age homes, retirement centers, storage areas, parking garages to name a few. It covers the relevant statutes and ordinances required for these types of developments. The course covers investigating financing methods and the risk involved in various financing methods. We utilize various models to assist in the decision-making process of property development. Students are required to develop a property development program with all the applications and approvals and submit a detailed construction plan. Investigations into specific market research to enhance the promotion and selling of the selected property development must be performed. We look at the legal aspects of contracts and tax implications of property development. Importantly, we focus on sustainable and environmental development around property development. In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-PRO-280 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. This course can include some assignments that form part of a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) that must be presented during this programme.
PCiBS-PRO-382 Property Management & Investment III
This course discusses advanced techniques of property management and investment. The aims of this course are to develop an in depth understanding of the principles used to develop a high residential area, old age homes, retirement centers, storage areas, parking garages to name a few.  We focus on fixed property types and their characteristics; their functions and the pricing of the specific property market. Property maintenance of the specific property types are focus areas that must be identified and allocated to the correct contractors / individuals to complete. The course elaborates on various types of properties such as: commercial buildings, corporations and residential properties. The course delves into the various financing models for properties and investigates property investment analysis. We discuss cash flow analysis; interest rates; gearing and risk analysis for specific property investments. Students cover leasing, maintenance and purchasing contracts in more depth and investigate property management techniques; selling and purchasing property. We look at investment vehicles in more depth and discuss the various options available to property investors. We have a detailed look at financial management; budgeting; real estate tax; leases; cancellation of leases; subletting and lease negotiations. Further topics tenants; lease agreements; security deposits; subletting and rent control. Ethics and governance issues to establish trusting relationships with tenants. In this course we also expand on the learnings from PCiBS-PRO-282 and apply the principles of that course in the course assignments. Advanced sampling and the collection of data; frequency distributions and graphical representations of the data collected. Descriptive measures of location and dispersion. Identification, use, evaluation and interpretation of statistical computer packages and statistical techniques. Estimation theory and supporting mathematical concepts. Statistical concepts are demonstrated and interpreted through practical coding and simulation within a data framework. Introductory concepts, various types of data and the number system. Statistical applications of quantitative techniques: solving and application. Supporting mathematical concepts with statistical concepts using simulation within a data structure framework. Functions, derivatives, interpretation of the derivative, rules of differentiation, applications of differentiation, integration, interpretation of the definite integral, applications of integration.
